Jacob leaves Beersheba with his brother's anger behind him, lights on a certain place at sunset, and takes a stone for a pillow. In the night he sees a ladder set up on the earth with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God going up and down on it. Jacob's Ladder makes a grid of Genesis 28.
The clues take in what he does when he wakes — the stone set up for a pillar, the oil poured on it, and the new name he gives the place. The closing verse is the dream itself.
