Esther 1–10

The Queen Esther Bible Crossword

15×15 grid · Medium · Ends on Esther 4:14

A Jewish orphan becomes queen of Persia without anyone at court knowing what she is, and then a decree goes out to destroy her people. Queen Esther follows the book end to end — the banquet, the sleepless night and the book of records, the gallows fifty cubits high, and the request made at the second feast.

God is never named in the book of Esther, which is part of what makes it remarkable, and the puzzle keeps to the text as it stands. The closing verse is Mordecai's question, and the line the whole story turns on.

“For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
